OpenTTD is an open source simulation game based upon the popular Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe", written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features. The game begins in 1930 (1950 in TTD), and ends in 2050. The player starts out by borrowing money to finance construction of transport facilities, and is charged interest until the loan is repaid. As the user plays the game and earns revenues, they have the choice of expanding service along existing routes, or expanding their transportation network. The game features a progression of technology: in any particular year of the game generally only contemporary types of technology are available.
- Build stations, docks, airports and make money by connecting areas requiring transport services
- Construct complex road - rail - air - sea networks using a simple to use interface
- Experience cut-throat rivalry as you try to grab your piece of the action or choose to play in non-competitive mode
- Delve into a massive randomly generated world that is affected by your actions with cities, mines, power plants, oil rigs
- Deal with characteristic town councils that express individual and varying attitudes
- Cope with disasters such as mine collapses, bus, lorry and aircraft malfunctions
- Use new transport methods as they are introduced over time including futuristic monorails
- Compete with other player in an online mode!
