Games I remember with a remake - THRUST

I'll say it right now, Thrust was an incredibly fun game for such a low budget title. It was published by Firebird Software Ltd and released in 1986 and for what it didn't have in graphics, it excelled in the fun factor. Thrust came on many different systems including the Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 16, Plus/4, Commodore 64, Electron, Vectrex, and ZX Spectrum. I myself spent many hours of enjoyment plus frustration on my Amstrad CPC playing this game. The simple task of pulling out Klystron Pods, out and into space ended up with either, your ship pulling the pod into the side of a cave, or you smashing your ship into another object. But it had far more to it than that!

Starbound - Action / Adventure / RPG From the developers of Terraria ready for Preorder!

Gamers rejoice as Starbound, from the developers of Terraria, the hit Action, Adventure, Rpg game which sold over 50,000 copies is now available for pre-order. Starbound is not a sequel but based on the same type of Terraria principal. In Terraria you created your own story, spoke to friends, made rooms, built huge forts, dug deep into the earth, wacked your pickaxe at blocks for resources, created better and better items while killing evil bosses and much more. In Starbound it is very much a new game, new ideas but still that Terraria feel is there. With a space like feel, new worlds to visit and strange new creatures, plus much more, I'm sure this game will be a massive hit, so as from the ending of this post I'm going to pre-order!

DSP Emulator - All in one Emulator, with many systems featured!

Now this is certainly an impressive Emulator as it not only features the ability to play ZX SPECTRUM +3 games, but the ZX Spectrum 128, ZX Spectrum 48, Arcade, Amstrad CPC 464, NES and Game Boy as well. This is a work in progress Emulator which means it will feature some bugs, but it's always being worked on. This is the DSP Emulator and is a pascal open source Emulator which is using the Delphi/Lazarus environment and is capable of running Zips, Tapes and Roms.

War Z - Updated Colorado map

Although I haven't played WarZ for sometime and especially as this Online Zombie Apocalypse game has been attacked by hackers left right and center. The developers are pushing out a new map update at some point during May 2013. This will be a graphical update to the cities of Colorado and as for any other updates to the map, we will have to wait and see. As for me, I'll probably be playing DayZ Epoch!

Grimlands, Kick Starting the apocalypse (free to play MMORPG)

Grimlands is a free to play MMORPG by Drago Entertainment. It is based in a post apocalyptic world and plays like a first and third person shooter. It is not a point and click MMO game play wise. The game offers a vast sandbox world to explore and will have a player based economy with PVE quests along with persistent and instanced PVP. The player will develop their character skills free of classes and levels. You can join a clan and fight over territory or be a lone wolf, the choice is yours.

Terraria - 2D Action/Adventure/Rpg Sandbox Creation is getting a BIG update!

Some great news today as Terraria, the 2D Action, Adventure, Rpg Sandbox Creation game is getting a big update. Developed by Re-Logic, this was one great game and I personally preferred it over Minecraft. You did pretty much everything to your hearts content in Terraria, in a world that was different every time. Chop down trees, build buildings, fight strange creatures, make new items, mine for new resources and much much more. I had many many hours of enjoyment with friends online trying to build strange yet wonderful buildings, such as my own arena! But this update is going to once again thrust the game back into the headlines. You'll come across new weapons such as the Beam sword and naturistic events like clouds and waterfalls. There's even more to come, so what can you spot?

Chasm - 2D Action Platformer Demo and Kickstarter

Chasm by Discord Games for the PC, Mac and Linux is a new 2D Action Platformer with RPG elements, that should fill the gap we've been waiting for since Cave Story. This platformer contains procedurally generated dungeons, loot drops, treasures, deadly enemies and tons of secrets to keep you busy. Chasm also has some pretty nifty sound effects which would sound great on any retro system! The developers have also pushed Chasm towards a kickstarter with a staggering $150,000 pledge goal, hopefully the teaser demo will persuade us gamers.

Road Redemption - Road Rash the return??? With a kickstarter!

I was all excited, and my eyes lit up at the news today, as Road Redemption is going to be the Road Rash of the new generation. Road Rash was an incredible game with hand to hand fighting on motorbikes, oh and the odd swift kick. But Road Redemption has a kickstarter and needs your pledging, and to be honest, we need this game! This brilliant looking title of motorbike insanity is being developed by DarkSeas Games for the Linux,Mac and PC. Road Redemption brings motorbike combat madness to your gaming screen with insane crashes, destructible environments, great AI, ragdoll physhics and what's even better, online multiplayer.

Theme Park Studio: Back again, but with a kickstarter

Although we have done an article on Indie Retro News before regarding Pantera Entertainment's Theme Park Studio, this time they are going to take it that little bit further, but with a kickstarter!  As they say, with this kickstarter, they are listening to us :Fans and friends! We have listened to your feedback, implemented your requests, and spent countless amount of hours as well as a small fortune developing Theme Park Studio to be the game that players will love for many years to come! But what is Theme Park Studio? Theme Park Studio is a suite of tools that allow players to design, build, and experience stunning amusement parks. So not a Theme Park or Rollercoaster Tycoon as such, but could it be just as good?

Hyperspace Pinball - Arcade Shooter and Pinball Combined (Free until 22nd Aprl)

What do you get, if you combine a Pinball game with an Arcade Shooter? If you don't know, you will now, as you'll end up with a game called Hyperspace Pinball. In this rather strange combine of games, you'll travel the solar system flipping shots at aliens while causing huge explosions and more! There's plenty to do here, with bonuses, power ups, enhancements and achievements to be earned all the while having Pinball fun! The developers Gamieon have even thrown in bosses and special enemies as you travel to planet Earth for the final showdown. What's more, If you're good enough, you can even compete for the top score against other players; even on other platforms! My destructive flippers are ready, are yours?

Developers of AI War announce Skyward Collapse : turn-based 4x simulation god-game

Arcen Games, Developers of AI War, the hit space game, are turning their attention towards something far less spacey.  This is SkyWard Collapse, a turn-based 4x simulation god-game. Unlike other god games whereby you use your god like powers to smash the opposition, this is about keeping the peace. Many miles up in the sky is a floating landmass and it's here you spend time in development and the overseeing of two warring factions, The Greeks and The Norse.

Xbox Live Recommendation Of The Week: Beat Hazard

This week I am recommending the Xbox Live Indie Marketplace release Beat hazard, a game that combines both indie, and retro. This multi-platform (PC, Mac, Linux, mobile and console) game is a modern interpretation of the classic Asteroids style gameplay, with a really interesting twist... The game's soundtrack actually effects the gameplay!

En Festival i 8 Bitar: Invitro - 8bit Tune!

This is such a great tune, it almost has the flavor of an Amstrad title but with slightly more upbeat attitude. This is En Festival i 8 Bitar: Invitro, which I believe is the intro to the 8bit festival? ;)

The Spring Sun Bundle‏ at the Indie Royale

The sun is shining and the weather is warming up. So here comes The Spring Sun Bundle from the Indie Royale to further brighten up your day. Flashback - HD Remake (Action Platformer) Update

Since our last article, I wondered if this was really true and yet it is, we are getting a Flashback HD remake/remaster, however.... It's going to be published by Ubisoft, so expect Uplay and most likely some form of DRM. This is 20 years after the original game's launch of the hit Amiga side scrolling platformer. Apparently the original Core-Team are behind this remastered version but with the latest generation detail, though remaining true to the classic, that made the original so great. However not one to be so negative, but as a huge fan of the original I'm not liking the remastered dark colours, nor the bad music and terrible voice over!

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures [Greenlight]

As an avid viewer of all things Angry Video Game Nerd, I am eagerly awaiting his debut movie, which is sure to become a cult smash internet hit when it is released later this year. For now though I'd like to bring to everyone's attention this Steam Greenlight title 'Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures', which stars the Nintendo Nerd in hopefully epic retro-ness against all sorts of video game evils.

Mayhem Triple - Action Platformer Shooter (Free Game)

Mayhem Triple is a free and impressive game released by Dustin Gunn. This blast happy game which has been in development since 2003, has platforming involved but it's mainly focused on violent and fast gun play, just what the doctor ordered! Featuring some pretty damn fine weaponry, dynamic controls, 5 insane varied levels and a great sound track, this is one shooter you'll not want to pass on by.

The Darkness Within - Another Top Quality fan based Zelda remake

If you thought Zelda: Linked To The Past was a big Zelda Quest, then The Darkness Within, which we are about to show you, is much bigger! Developed by Russ, The Darkness Within is a Zelda like game on a grand scale, that has been in development for two and a half years. This is the sequel to the brilliant Light of the Heavens and not only is it a huge game, but it's also story driven, loaded with features and has two unique characters featuring their own playstyle. If you love Zelda and love Adventure RPG's, then you can't miss out on this free fan based game.

Epic Pirates Story - Free Building/Arcade/Puzzle Simulator! (Android)

I love the sound of free, who doesn't? But most of the time free Android games are not that great to be honest, but here comes Epic Pirates Story, which is a pretty good free game. Developed by Epic Devs LLC, you play as a character who is out for revenge against Duke A.Blizzardo, an evil pirate King who took your father away. It is your time to become a great leader and gather your pirates to take the kingship away from A.Blizzardo. The only way to do this is by developing your pirate island into something great and this is where the fun begins!

The Perfidious Petrol Station: Nancy the Happy Whore - High quality 2D Adventure

A new 2D Adventure by Technocrat at FireFlower Games, titled The Perfidious Petrol Station: Nancy the Happy Whore has just been released with full voice overs. With the quality of the retro style graphics, it has certainly peaked our interest. But the title alone is sure to stand out, this almost has a Leisure Suit Larry vibe, but this time, you're a Happy Whore! Featuring a small length Adventure with around three hours game play and plenty of humour, you'll not want to miss this fun little gem.

Deadly Walkers - Fight the zombies of the old movies‏ in a first person shooter!

Here's an interesting take on the zombie situation, instead of the new style of zombie which we are so used to, Deadly Walkers is a zombie FPS Single and Multiplayer game that will give the feel and emotion of an old zombie movie. Though to me, all zombies are generally the same in some way, they want to eat you. Animantz and Dysotek have just announced this new zombie title and will be bringing it to the PC and MAC. You'll be fighting hordes of the undead that will surround you from all sides, but use your gun power correctly because if you don't aim for the head, they will keep on coming!

Humans Must Answer - An explosive shoot em up, gives us a bundle with the kickstarter

With only 45hrs to go and very close to their kickstarter goal, ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R developers, have put an interesting pledge offer forward to help Humans Must Answer, the awesome looking shoot em up to become a success. They've teamed up with Curious Panda Games and StudioEvil to now offer a shmup bundle at just £7. That's right, if you spend just £7 not only do you get Humans Must Answer but Syder Arcade and Rhythm Destruction as well, nice!

From Bedrooms to Billions - The story of the UK Video Games Industry but with a kickstarter

This is a rather cool project for a Kickstarter and one that I've not seen before. Unlike most Kickstarters we've featured here have been games, this is oh so slightly different. This Kickstarter, which has already gone way past it's goal, is going to be a two hour feature length documentary featuring some of the best game developers of our time, going way back to 1979! It's also a true story of the British Video Games Industry and how a small number of great individuals shaped this industry.

Fairune - An action-puzzler RPG with a retro feel! (iOS)

Fairune, which is a game developed by URARA-WORKS Co., Ltd is a new FREE action-puzzler RPG with a retro feel for iOS devices. If you are a Zelda gameplay style fan then this free game is one not to be missed. You'll be met with beautiful retro graphics, cute music, lots of enemies and plenty of puzzles to solve. As for the story : The scourge is back with a vengeance! Seal him off for good! Collect the three Spirit Icons to lead the way to victory!

Prince of Persia C64 - Retro Platformer Remade!

Now this is impressive, especially if you have a C64 emulator handy. This is a conversion of the very original and very retro Prince of Persia for the C64 by Mr Sid with added C64 music.  Prince of Persia never came to the C64 as it originally came out on the Apple II then developed for the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and MS-DOS. This game is of true brilliance, as a multitude of platforming levels was met with falling floors, sword wielding enemies, crashing grates and at worst deadly spikes. It was a fluid game and you really felt as if the character was alive with his life like movement.

Zelda: Linked To The Past - A Top Quality fan based Zelda remake

Are you ready for another fantastic Zelda quest? As Zelda: Linked To The Past is here to blow you away. Featuring the legendary character himself in some of the best quality graphics of a fan based Zelda game, you'll not want ignore this little gem. Developed by Jamian, he has put a ton of work into the game. You'll enjoy nearly 30 hours of gameplay, with 30 different dungeons, each one with a custom boss and many optional secrets. Some say this is an Adventure, others a JRPG/RPG but this has it all, with plenty of enemies to fight and lots more.

Theme Hospital (CorsixTH) - The ultimate open source strategy game, now available for your Android!

Before you get too excited, this is not an original release by Bullfrog or any main selling company. This is an unofficial port of CorsixTH to the Android. In other words, It's an Open Source version of Theme Hospital, but to be honest you wouldn't notice a huge difference from the original, it's that good. This project aims to re-implement the game engine of Theme Hospital for more modern systems, with the capability of loading assets including graphics and levels from the original game.  Theme Hospital is an all time classic with humor as if it was straight from a carry on film! Design a hospital with all it's room's and objects while saving patients from the many strange diseases, bloated head syndrome anyone?
