Playstation: Game Changer - PS1 documentary kickstarter

It may not have escaped your notice that the original playstation turned 20 this month. That's right, in 1994 the PSX or simply Playstation as it was finally launched as, finally went on sale in Japan. Anyone who was a gamer at the time could barely move for news about Sony's imminent arrival in the gaming press and Edge magazine probably sold more copies of their first few issues solely on news of the upcoming console. Johnathan Beales is looking to raise funds to create the ultimate documentary of the birth of the biggest gaming brand of the last 20 years...

To call the Playstation a turning point in gaming history would be the biggest understatement of the year. The PS1 simply DESTROYED everything that came before it, and despite being launched a month after Sega's Saturn, was outselling it 2 to 1. This was to be the start of Sega's decline and ultimately led to them pulling out of the console market after the equally disappointing (sales wise) dreamcast.
Of course the Playstation brand is one of the biggest juggernauts of the gaming industry, regularly trading blows with Xbox, but it all started here and with some of gaming's most highly regarded franchises getting their first outing here like Tomb Raider and Wipeout.

The playstation name has a special place in a lot of gamers hearts (and as a dastardly foe to many others) including my own... I still have my original 1st gen Japanese import version from 1995 (european version wasn't launched until september 1995) but love it or loathe it, it's place in history has been sealed as a game changer.

This campaign is looking to produce an audio documentary, a book (both hardcover and E-book) as well as the film itself, available on digital download through to Blu-Ray disc, allowing for a wide range of backer reward levels covering all bases.

This documentary is surely a must for all fans of this iconic device.
