The Hobbit 128K Edition - Classic ZX Spectrum adventure gets an overhaul!
In 1982 Melbourne House, developed by Philip Mitchell and Veronika Megler, released 'The Hobbit' for a multitude of systems including the ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, BBC, MSX, Dragon 32 and Oric. It was based on a famous book originally written by J.R.R Tolkien and featured an illustrated text based adventure with commands such as North, East and Look. Although it was a good adventure game and based on a book loved by many, it has now been superseded by the latest announced release of 'The Hobbit 128K edition'; an unofficial overhauled version developed by World of Spectrum.org.
This 128k edition unlike the original has plenty of features that should really appeal to both the adventurer and anyone that owns a ZX Spectrum. Features such as Mick Farrow's fabulous new loading screen, the slow old vector-based artwork has been replaced by 55 new bitmap screens, ported from the C64, BBC, and DOS disk versions, a new title screen, crediting the original authors and WoS, and a fancy new ending screen! (48K compatible - if booted on a 48K machine, you get the original artwork)
So if you have a ZX Spectrum and want to play something new while remaining true to it's J R R roots, then come and play ' The Hobbit 128k edition '
