WAKE ME UP - A new 48K ZX Spectrum game is ready for your enjoyment!
Finally after all this time we have a new ZX Spectrum game for you to get your grubby hands on; this is ' WAKE ME UP ' by JB, for the 48K! Developed in ASM and for the ZX DEV'15, you play as a famous explorer that has been trapped in a horrible nightmare and just can't wake up. It's down to you to complete this mysterious game and finally awake before you succumb and lose your life.
WAKE ME UP is a pretty good effort for a ZX DEV game, but what the game has in good detail including a great border, enemy designs and coloured platforms, lacks when it comes to the core game itself. For one thing the jump detection just feels off to me and many platforms can be missed when leaping from one position to another, which is made worse as you fall off the screen and hit by an enemy bullet that is shot from either side. But if you do survive that, you may also come across the odd frame rate slow down, which happened to me when I went from screen to another and back again.
The last issue I came across was the frustrating puzzle at the end of the far right of the game. Not only did I keep hitting the wrong keyboard button but when I did fail the puzzle, part of it shot past my character, through the border and to the other side of the screen *BUG?*.
Overall it's worth playing, but for me it needs more improvement in the areas I mentioned. But if you want to play it, you can download it from the link below in EN and ESP.
