We were a bit late on this one so you've probably seen the news by now, but after all these years that famous branding name Commodore is back in action. Yes indeed the glory of the C64, is bringing back the nostalgia but this time as a Commodore PC. Thanks to individual Computers GmbH, based in Germany they have licensed the rights of the Commodore trademarks from Polabe Holding N.V. Oh and if you're concerned about the name behind the ownership, it is by none other than Jens Schönfeld creator of hardware, such as the Turbo Chameleon 64, C64 Reloaded and ACA12xx accelerator. In other words if it wasn't for Jens us Amiga and C64 owners would be worse of!
So what does this ownership mean exactly and how does it benefit us? Well for a number of reasons really, as using the original injection molds such as the C64c and perhaps the breadbin, a new Commodore PC can come to life but looking just like it's out of the 80's but containing a lot more modern goodies inside. Furthermore thanks to the hugely successful C64 Reloaded board by the designer Jens Schönfeld, which fits in any C64 case, they will be upgraded(?) with two new versions that are currently being prepared for production.
Jens Schönfeld, CEO of iComp GmbH, said: „When I recieved a C64 computer for my 11th birthday, I wouldn't have dared to dream that I would make my own Commodore products 32 years later! I feel really honored that iComp GmbH is the first company since a long time that has proven capable to fulfill all technical requirements of the licensor. I consider this as an award for the quality of our products. “
It all sounds so fantastic but rather than me rattle on and repeat myself like most sites are doing, head on over to the main page and gather all the information you need :)
