Classed as a rare game on the Amiga, Return to Genesis started its life in 1987 as an Atari ST demo, intending to illustrate the performance of an Atari with high speed, horizontal, parallax scrolling using all of 16 colours. It was later turned into a commercial scrolling shooter in 1988 and released on the Amiga as well as the Atari ST and published by Firebird with music by none other than David Whittaker. Yet today we've just been told via @_Z_TEAM that they are remaking the game for the Sega Megadrive and completely from scratch.
Return to Genesis on the Sega Megadrive is being remade by Z Team and based on the Atari ST version, it is being remade with no source code ports and made with SGDK 1.12. Furthermore it is a work in progress title and only Level 1 is available for play testing. In regards to the actual gameplay, it looks to be a top down defender style game with shooting involved, and you must rescue the various scientists strewn about the level while avoiding or destroy the pursuing aliens.
