Bitmap books have just launched the kickstarter campaign for the 5th book in the brilliant Visual Compendium series. This time the focus is on the much loves SNES and Super Famicom. If there's a console system more loved than this I'd be astounded, and already, after only 4 days, the book is nearly 5x funded and half way towards the (current) top stretch goal of £200K!
There is no doubt in my mind that the 200K target will be well and truly smashed and if anything like previous campaigns, means just a straight backing of the book, will get you a whole plethora of goodies. At the moment the goody list is just a scanline bookmark, and the stretch goal list is mainly extra content, gatefold pages, a heavy slipcase and lenticular cover (very nice on the NES book) but I'd be surprised if later goals appear to include things like postcards and CD's of music like the C64(vol2), spectrum, NES and Amiga books ended up shipping with.
To date the bar of quality of each successive book gets raised by Sam and when he says in the campaign "will be printed lithographically to the highest standards. This ensures that colours in the book are really vibrant and pages have a high-quality, luxurious feel to them." he's not exaggerating in the slightest. the print quality of previous books was simply gorgeous, with the spectrum book utilizing neon inks to convey the high contrast nature of the platform.
As this is now the 6th campaign in the series, Sam has got his process down to where his timescales are pretty accurate and even unforseen circumstances like Nintendo getting legal with the production of the NES book didn't prevent it from happening.
So if you're a fan of the SNES/SFC then go check out the campaign here
if you're interested in the rest of the series (C64, Amiga, Spectrum, NES) then check out the Bitmap Books Website
