Space Invaders was first released way back in 1978 in the Arcades and was developed by Tomohiro Nishikado and published by Taito in Japan, with a further release made available in the United States and a much later version in the 1980's on the Atari 2600. A game that has had so many clones and inspired games over years has had another appearance and this time as a game by Mr.Nop, Richard Bayliss and Martin Piper as ' Spyders ' on the C64!
Originally Spyders was written for the PET but also released for the C64 as a multi-level game that started its life as a Space Invaders clone, which over time has developed into something much more. The game also puts you in control of a defender, as you must protect the Earth from Alien Spyders that slowly creep towards you in formation, with every move and enemy destroyed.
The game is pretty decent overall and it's really nice to see a slight twist on the original, especially with another cool tune by Richard Bayliss for The New Dimension
