As if the news from GamesinBits regarding the upcoming Saboteur 3 couldn't get any better, as just moments ago we have been told not only is Saboteur coming to the Nintendo Switch, but so is the sequel Saboteur 2 and of course the recently announced Saboteur 3. Both the first and second game in the series were some of the best action adventure games I have ever played growing up on an 8bit system, and designed by Townsend and released by Durell Software in the late 80's
As for the first game which can also be found online as a remade version from 2015 ( link ). In Saboteur 1 you played as a Ninja, tasked with getting into a warehouse to steal a disk which has the names of rebel leaders on it. You must make your way through many different rooms, attacking enemies or avoiding them while also being careful not to fall. If you can do that, find the disk and escape you've won the game, but keep an eye on your energy and time, or it's game over.
As for the second game in the series 'Saboteur II' released for many platforms such as the CPC, ZX Spectrum and C64 and one of my personal favourites. This game featured a female protagonist who must break into a high-security compound, fight off guards, avoid pumas and alter the course of a nuclear ballistic missile and then escape on a motorbike.
Phew now that's out of the way, it's on to the news announcement. As we've been told SimFabric Studio will be responsible for porting and releasing the classic game Saboteur! to the Nintendo Switch and based around the extended Saboteur which was released on the PC by Clive Townsend in 2015. In addition to porting, SimFabric also plans to refresh and improve the game on the Nintendo Switch, including collaborating with Adam Skorupa on new music for the game and the trailer.
The extended version of the game includes a comprehensive mission world and over 8 different game modes that emulate the original look of Saboteur! on such machines as: ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, NES console, GameBoy, Atari 2600, Amiga, as well as ZX81.
Furthermore the announcement goes even further, as the publishing contract also provides for porting and the release of the second part of Saboteur 2 as well as SimFabric teaming up with Clive Townsend for porting and the release of the third part of Saboteur for Nintendo Switch, which is under preparation.
Planned release of the first part of Saboteur! in the Nintendo eShop store is in the third quarter of this year and remember you heard it here first.
