A bit of a news special today as we've just been contacted via email, to let you all know that the eagerly awaited MSX 2 game of 'Metal Gear, has been ported/remade over to the Amiga 500 by h0ffman. Yes indeed this is hard to believe, but not only has the game has been in development since Nov 2020, but the developer has said he has been tirelessly working on it and now you can all enjoy a game which was ranked in MSX 2 Magazine's top 20 best selling MSX games in Japan for five months in 1987!
Furthermore not only has this MSX 2 classic of Metal Gear been converted to run at full frame rate whereas the original MSX 2 version would mostly run at 25/30 frames but worse during busy scenes, but it's based on a full and commented disassembly by Manuel Pazosthere's, there's an option to play with the original European translation and updated translation which is closer to the Japanese original, and finally it includes the original sound track and sound effects as well as a fully enhanced sound option. - So yes this is one very special release for the Amiga!
Originally released in 1987 for the MSX2, Metal Gear became an instant classic. Designed by the legendary Hideo Kojima, it spawned a huge franchise in stealth gameplay and is considered one of the top games from the platform. While there are ports for the NES, Spectrum and C64 they were missing a lot of the key details from the original game. An Amiga version was once advertised in a magazine but sadly was consigned to myth and legend. That is until now.
