MOBA is one of the most popular new genres in recent years, is about to get its newest entry. Circuits and Shields, is as the developer Koza Games puts it, “The Modern Gamer’s MOBA”.As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, is also applied here. Circuits and Shields (or Circuits, for short), is a 5v5 team combat game, but with a few twists. Centered around game modes with non-stop action, the games also feature “Blessings”, a sort of rogue-lite buffs and mini-games, which will make each game more memorable.
Developed using the Unreal 4 engine, the small team of Koza Games has after four years of development, created a fully playable alpha version, which features five characters and currently one game mode, “Circuitball”. This mode is a combination of classic MOBA mechanics mixed with football. The goal of each game is to hold the ball as long as possible and put it in the opponent’s end zone. The developers also say that the game will also feature standard 5v5 MOBA maps, but with several new twists to shake things up, speed up the late game and reduce the time for the objectives to spawn. In addition to this, there are two new modes in the works as well, “Standoff” (an ARAM type-map), and “Siege” a standard attackers-defenders style scenario.
While currently in development, the developers are confident in their product, and the growing player base is definitely a good sign. With the decision not to have pay-to-win mechanics, the developers want to focus on reaching out to the players and work on improving competitive in-game teams/tournaments and building a transparent ranking system.
Circuits and Shields is set to release, on September 1st, 2022, but if you don’t want to wait you can always join the community and follow the development of what we hope is the next gem in the MOBA genre.
