When Knights of Bytes released Sam's Journey for the Commodore 64 back in 2017 it was a huge hit! Indie Retro News awarded Sam's Journey game of the year 2017 as this game really surpassed all our expectations, delivering us a huge epic adventure that really pushed the limitations of the C64. In fact it was such a great game, that once again thanks to another heads up from the same team, Knights of Bytes has released new footage of their work in progress version of Sam's Journey for the NES.

Knights of Bytes have been working hard since the release of Sam and we are excited to announce that Sam's Journey is not only still coming to the NES as a far cry from it's original April Fools C64 debut ;) but there's new in game footage of which you can view above. As in the words of the developer "A new NES game is in the making! Some fiery creatures await Disco Sam in the sky, but thanks to his signature twist, he can delay his fall gently and stomp them precisely!"
I didn't expect the NES version to take as long as the C64 version did, but it's been a while now since it was announced.
ReplyDeleteYes, and we deeply apologize for that. Due to unexpected personal events, Sam's Journey for the NES had to be put on hold for a while. The same happened to the C64 version back then. We are all the more glad that we could finally pick up our work on the project again. And believe us, we really want to get it to the people! :-)
DeleteOfcourse I like the fact the NES gets a new title, but I really hope they also work on a new C64 title. The C64 version was meant to be a 'NES' like game on the Commodore. To me it feels a bit 'off' now that the NES itself gets it too and even looks better. People invested in the title too in the hope more would follow (I did), so here's hoping for Sam 2..
ReplyDeleteI get how you feel, there are thousands of games like Sam on the NES, it feels bad man, especially with how long it's taking...I doubt we will see a Sam 2 on the c64 for a long time.
DeleteOh well, it might look better on the NES but it's unlikely to sound better.
We don't target the C64 alone, but given our history, chances for another Knights of Bytes production for the C64 are quite high indeed.
DeleteSorry if I sound ungrateful, Sam's Journey is one of the best games I've ever played, not just 'good for the c64', regardless of system, a joyous experience and I didn't regret the premium price once, on the contrary I would still have found it of value if it was modern day prices.
DeleteNo ungratefulness taken! We're glad people like Sam's Journey on the C64 so much, and we can totally understand the deep desire for a sequel. It's not like we wouldn't be tempted from time to time… Cheers!
DeleteDon't have a NES but bst of luck to the Knights and cool to see them in the comments.

ReplyDeleteLooks really good, i am looking forward to the NES Version of the game, also to compare this version with the C64 one. Both hardware (C64/NES) has different strengths and weaknesses, so it could be very interesting.
