We always try to get the best retro gaming updates for you on Indie Retro News, as we've just found out while looking through itch io and as a heads up from Saberman, that Karsten Senkel has announced the release of Sub Chase 64; A high quality Commodore 64 remake of the classic VIC 20 game, which was originally released in 1982 by UMI. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a video of the game which as always can be viewed below.
Sub Chase is a 1 -player arcade game for the Commodore 64 which is a remake of the VIC 20 game. The player controls a warship at the top of the screen, which the player moves slowly horizontally. The ship drops depth charges to destroy submarines moving horizontally in the water. The player must avoid torpedoes from the submarines. Three ships destroyed, and it's game over. The remake features 8 different enemies, 3 game modes either 1 or 2 player together, weapon upgrades, a balanced difficulty curve and a highscore table.

Looks nice! I played a lot of SinkSub Pro back in 1996, and this seems like a cool alternative for the C64 :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteFor the record, the Odissey 2 console or Videopac Philips in Europe released a Sub Chase Game on 1978-79 as the first cartdige on the console and it's a 2 player game with a submarine versus aircraft on the sea area and i love the new version on C64! thanks.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of an old 80s arcade title I have forgotten the name of, and it is done well too.
