In 2018 we were the first site to officially announce a new Amiga called ' AQUABYSS ', a game which at the time we didn't have a lot of information about, but we were able to show a rather nice teaser trailer, and a story set in June 1821, in which you travel from Paris to the French coast and visit the very depths of the ocean to discover what lies underneath the surface. Well fast forward to today however and not only do we have more information about the game as it is now officially available, but there's a new video to go with a linked digital download.
This game has inspirations based on games like Sid Meier's Pirates!, Elite Frontier II, Freelancer, Aquanox and some other good games. However the game does not contain arcade elements and, as it was said on other occasions, it's not a 3D type. It's rather slow pace action that does include trading where you can play it with a cup of tea or coffee and have some snacks. As the website describes "Dive into an underwater utopian world. Navigate, explore, trade, upgrade, mine resources, fulfill tasks and do more in the world of AQUABYSS!
WHAT ARE YOU PAYING FOR :
"You are buying a digital version of the game AQUABYSS, which has an open status. What does this mean? It means that the game is and will be developed all the time, new content will be added, bugs will be corrected, and it is also possible that something will be removed. The future of the game, its content, will depend on the community of players. You too can have impact on it, dear Amiga fan. We hope that such a model suits you and you are willing to support the studio by buying the game so that we can continue to work with passion on this unique title"
System Requirements :
The minimum hardware required to run the game is an Amiga 68000, 2 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast RAM, and 15 MB of free hard drive space. However, we do not recommend playing it on a 68000 CPU. Unless you have a great deal of patience and are desperate. But remember, you have been warned! ;)
UPDATE - Game is now available for purchase with full details at link below

Fantastic. The greatest game release since 20 years for the Amiga. Lets make Amiga and Aquabyss great again ;))))
ReplyDeleteThank you! We have put a lot of effort to make this game after such a long time. It is certainly not without flaws, like any other game, but we hope that the advantages are much more and will cover any inconveniences ;)

Excting! Congrats to the developers! But I have to admit the price is quite steep for a digital only version (if I understand it correctly). I'd still be interested but is it playable with WinUAE without problems? What format does the game come in?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you want to play it in WinUAE?
DeleteI don't own the hardware, simple as that. But I do enjoy playing Amiga games - so WinUAE is my gateway to this world.
DeleteShort answer: yes, it should play fine with UAE (this goes without saying basically cause 99.999% of games working on real 68k Amiga hardware also play fine with UAE).
DeleteThe price for a game that was developed for the Amiga for seven years and cost more than gamers will be able to give for it should not be surprising. The topic was already covered a while ago in the context of Devil's Temple from developer Greame, so I'll refer you to that comment. Feel free to consider whether it's actually a lot to give for a great quality new Amiga game, of which there are few in today's era. Only a few developers get to create something good for the Amiga. It requires a huge amount of work and money. Please appreciate our tremendous efforts. Otherwise no one will want to create anything new and Amiga will forever remain with old games. Yet it doesn't have to be like that at all! And we firmly believe that a large part of our small community understands this and will actively support it.

Yes, it works under WinUAE and FS-UAE including the network feature. In fact, some of the players already play it that way and they say they enjoy it :)

Any chance to see anything from the gameplay? Besides the story movie I can't find anything on the dev website
ReplyDeleteSure! Here you go, not English though this one "https://youtu.be/4W5oZjXH7-o"
DeleteLooks like an interesting Amiga game.
ReplyDeleteCan you explain a bit more on the 'online' requirement? Getting internet access on Amiga hardwire can be tricky.
ReplyDeleteAny network card will do. Of course, a device like Plipbox (the cheapest) will give very slow installation/update speed but in the game, it doesn't matter that much at the moment. Nevertheless, it's much easier to do a slower online update than copying and extracting the game over and over again. Maybe someone makes a comparison in a video and posts it online but from my experience installing the game on a WiFi PCMCIA card takes about two minutes while on a Plipbox about 24 minutes. But it also depends on Amiga's CPU and/or the internet speed (more ping to the server than the speed actually).
DeleteBest regards,

This looks great! Is there combat in the game?
