When I was growing up there was a game I used to love playing with friends, whereby your task was to drop bombs and blow up other enemies in a maze like game screen. That game was Bomberman also known as Dynablaster. A great game which was actually first released way back in 1983 by Hudson Soft and then published by Konami. In fact the reason we are mentioning the game today is for the release of Blower : a brand new Bomberman clone for the Commodore Amiga entered into the Amiga Blitz Basic Game Jam.
Here is what the creator says about the new game of Blower : "This is a local multiplayer game, a Bomberman x Doom game. Let's say a Doom like with 2D bomberman fashion, or a Bomberman without bombs but with guns and flamethrower. It's was initially designed in the computer room of my high school on PC MS/DOS and written in Pascal and inline x86 assembly. I got help from friends as Guillaume, Donatien and Aurélien".
"It was initially created in 1996/1997, so you can feel the action movie legacy of the 80's and early 90's with all Arnold Schwarzenegger, Silvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Kurt Russel, Steven Seagal. The new title screen and the music were chosen to highlight this legacy. In 1996, it was unconscious as it was one of the main pop culture of the last 15 years, reworking on this in 2022, I make it more "meta" and more like a parody".
