Here's a game I remember fondly it's ' The Way of the Exploding Fist' ; a 1980s fighting game published by Melbourne House that appeared on many different systems such as the Amstrad, C16, C64, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, and even the Acorn! This rather famous game which was very similar to Karate Champ even featured gameplay as a series of one-on-one karate matches. Well if you too remember this fine game back in the day, you may be interested to know as thanks to Liqmatrix contacting just recently, he has told us that Coyney74 has released an update to his work in progress Exploding Fist Remake for PC and Linux.
It's great to see games like being remade, especially as The Way of the Exploding First was one of my favourite games, especially with large Amstrad clam cases being the order of the day. I also enjoyed but failing many times, trying to get that kick or punch on target to take my opponent out and gain at least a yin-yang. Well if you've never played this game back in the day, now is the time to appreciate what some of us did all those years ago.
If the game is too fast, open the CogsApp.cogcfg with a text editor. Now change the TicksPerSecond from 120 to 3, or 5, or 6 and so on....
ReplyDeleteChanging TicksPerSecond is cheating ;) It should run at a similar speed to the original, If it's running too fast, make sure you've not got vsync disabled.
ReplyDeleteThanks for featuring my remake. It's written as a demo of COGS, an engine I'm creating to allow anyone to easily create retro/indie style games. I'll be releasing it and the source code for Exploding Fist soon along with some other tutorials. You'll be able to change Exploding Fist or use it as the starting point for your own game. If you'd like to get involved in testing the engine, or changing something in the game drop me a mail (paul@cogsgames.org).
