Super Xevious 1200 - In dev Arcade game for the Commodore Amiga 1200 via JOTD gets a super update!

It was only just the other day that we featured JOTD's Arcade to Amiga conversion of Xevious : A game that was originally released in the Arcades by Namco's and then ported to other home computers. Well fast forward to today and do we have an interesting update for all you fine folk, as JOTD has announced that his Arcade to Amiga conversion now includes Super Xevious : a game that was originally released back in 1984 by Namco as a response to the overwhelming success of the original in Japan.


While a more in depth write up can be found (HERE), this is what the Wikipedia says about Super Xevious. "Super Xevious includes multiple additions and changes to the original game. The gameplay overall is harder, with more aggressive enemies and faster-moving projectiles. New enemy types include fighter jets, tanks, helicopters, and silver-plated Galaxian flagships, which are found in specific areas of the game. Some of these enemies reset the player's score to zero upon destruction; however, bonus points are awarded for flying over the tank. The placement of the Sol Citadels and Special Flags have also been changed".

    2023: I can't even dream of what Amiga developers would achieve after so many years of learning the Amiga capabilities and sharing knowledge.... Here you are: a crappy 1982 videogame on a beefy AGA system, with wobbly scrolling.

    5. If you ignore the wobbly scrolling for a while, and read up on what they did, you will have to acknowledge it is quite a a feat they pulled off here. Almost complete re-engineering of the source of one of the best arcade games early 1980s , for multiple platforms. A lot of respect for that.

  4. The scrolling stutters everyone once in a while in that arcade longplay video but the ground objects do not independently wobble like in the video for the Amiga port. Immediately noticeable is the speed difference of the arcade vs port.

    I get what they are trying to achieve, and it's very noble, but unless the hardware is strong enough to pull of an emulation of the features that aren't 1:1 from the source the code accuracy has to give way to gameplay accuracy, it looks like there's already been compromises, and that's fine, I say it's worth figuring out how to make Xevious run more like the Amiga is capable in terms of smoothness and speed.

  6. Really nice conversion and I love the original music/background ambience. But the sound effects could be a little bit louder. Hope they could do Sega’s Up’n Down and other System 1 games next :)

  7. The videos do not do justice to this fantastic conversion. I played it on my 1200 + 1084 crt, it is perfect, smooth scrolling, every detail and enemy pattern equal to the arcade. Great job ! Congratulations !
