Prince of Persia as a first tech demo for the ColecoVision and MSX!

Another interesting story for you all, as we have just been told through Saberman that the all time classic platformer of 'Prince of Persia'; a game which has been released for many different systems back in 1989 by Broderbund, may well be getting a ColecoVision and MSX port by Under4Mhz. While we don't know if this will be a fully featured experience, Under4Mhz has made available a simple technical demo of the first level downloadable below Saberman's gameplay video.

Here is what Under4MHz says about the tech demo. "A simple technical demo of the first level of Prince of Persis for the ColecoVision, MSX and SG-1000 consoles. These consoles never got a port of POP. The aim was to see if it was possible to implement the game for these platforms, and to see if there is any interest in it. It's a technical demo, so slow, incomplete and with many features not implemented. No guards or sword fights".

  2. Many complain about the Apple II version being the worst. I’m just amazed they actually ported it to that system. The Commodore 64 port is amazing. Maybe a Texas Instruments Home Computer next? Colecovision and MSX will be interesting.

    3. The C64 version looks really dull. That's the infamous C64 colour palette for you though. The Atari 8-bit version is wonderful though.

  3. Judging from occasional sprite corruption, I think that he's redefining on the fly the sprites that build the main character. This is why it's slow. Simply sync issues (I think he hasn't yet timed it). Anyway it's a technical demo, let's wait and see what happens ;)

  5. IMHO Atari XL/XE port of POP is the best 8-bit version today.

    2. I was really surprised by the XL/XE homebrew. I like the detail of the dungeons that looks like some of the better versions including the console versions that were on a Cd-Rom. I was really amazed they could put so much detail into a game that runs on a really old 8-bit system.
