Well this came as a complete surprise to us, and one I'm eager to play later today on my Commodore 64 . As thanks to Saberman telling us through Facebook, we've been told that Arlasoft has made available a downloadable preview of his Theme Park inspired game called 'Funfair Inc' for the C64 !Yes indeed if you loved playing the classic Bullfrog title released on multi systems back in the 90's, a game featuring all the puking, building and ride creation you could ever want, will be pleased to learn you can try out this unfinished version on your C64!
Here is what the website says about the game "This downloadable version is where development stopped a couple of years ago, I just hit a brick wall and the motivation to tackle even the smallest feature or bug appeared. Unfortunately unless I get into a position where I can do my own thing all day every day I don't see me having the time or energy to finish it, but I will make the code available to anyone who wants to have a go. Most of the planned features are implemented, it would just be a question of bug fixing, adding mouse support and making sure all the finances and RNGs are balanced to make the game fun. At present it's just a bit of a sandbox to muck around in and try and break :)".

NO WAY....this is awesome :)
ReplyDeleteLooks nice. I do find the graphics a bit hard to follow however. Jonathan Cauldwell's Fun Park for the ZX Spectrum (a pure marvel of programming) found the ideal graphical realization imho, very clean presentation and evenwith all the abstraction very lively. Maybe Funfair tries to be a inofficial port of the original Theme Park more than it's good for it. Rater impressive nonetheless, absolutely, but a different graphical approach may have been for the better.
ReplyDeleteWOW this is freaking impressive! And yes, mouse support would be super handy with this! Isn't it also really funny how the C64 mouse has gained in usage time/popularity in recent years? It's like it's getting a new whole life now :3.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great achievement! I hope someone picks up the code (that Arlasoft wants to share with anyone interested) and manages to finish the game. It could be another milestone in C64 gaming!
