Shadow Dancer - A 1989/91 game released for the Amiga could be getting a Mega Drive to Amiga port instead

While many of you have probably played Shadow Dancer back in the day on the Amiga, some of you felt while the game was fun, it was lacking in graphics, noting by many as having an Atari ST colour-palette and no Parallax. Well one such user might be changing that negative view, as msmalik681 has shown a project for a Mega Drive to Amiga port of Shadow Dancer using the Scorpion Engine. A new version of the game which the creator states "The megadrive version was the same game re-imagined and it was much better then the original arcade game. I played this game to death when I was younger and I loved it".

While we don't know if this will be turned into a full game, especially as it's just a project and he is currently hard at work on Street Fighter 1, here's the wiki write up about this game from back in the day.  "Shadow Dancer is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash action game produced by Sega and originally released as an arcade game in 1989. It is the second and the final arcade game in the Shinobi series, following the original Shinobi itself. The player controls a ninja aided by an attack dog, who is fighting to save the city from a terrorist organization. Shadow Dancer was the first game developed for the Sega System 18 arcade board hardware and its generally well-received home versions were released for the Master System console and several home computer systems in 1991".

  1. Although the Arcade conversion of Shadow Dancer was a ST port and lacking in areas, It was very playable with big sprites and nice music and only came on 1 dd floppy if I remember correctly!

  3. Looks nice, but I don't understand this focus on ports instead of creating some new games instead. The developers are definitely talented so it should be a lot more interesting than porting games especially when they are already available on the system. If I want to play the mega drive version I will... just play the mega drive version :)

    1. You only have to see how popular Arcade like ports of more recent games such as Frogger,Xevious etc are in the Amiga scene... Or even the C64 scene for that matter such as Ghosts n Goblins Arcade!

Yeah,that conversion was the usual st-f Port,much Better than Rolling thunder or shinobi of course but no less no more than that....mega drive version was a masterpiece,totally different from the arcade but,in My opinion,a great follow-up to Revenge of Shinobi.I Hope the Amiga version Will be really similar to the Genesis One!!

Since they are getting the engine and graphics of all these games up and running across various titles on Amiga, c64 and Amstrad lately, I'm not sure why they don't release a follow up to the original titles with new levels - that would be much preferable to a straight port of an existing game. Whole new level packs would make them a must play not just a curio

  6. There is no game at all. It's only a moving sprite with a scrolling, using scorpion engine.

  7. For a coder, it’s easier to do a port potentially because all the graphics are done…. Mostly. It’s more a technical achievement.
