The Amiga news just keeps on coming, as we've just been told by our good friend Saberman, that at some point during September 2023 the Whatiff Amiga magazine provided a BitBeam Cannon Demo of 'Aeon's Legend': a demo level to show the progress and game features of the Scorpion Engine, which was provided as a cover disk from the September issue, and can be downloaded below. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided some footage of the level.
While it does state that Aeon's Legend is currently being developed by the BitBeamCannon team using Scorpion Engine and the game is still in early development being designed for at least 2 button controllers. From what I can tell via the website right now however is the game doesn't exist at all and most likely Aeon's Legend was used as the bases for their current game of Daemon Claw. A game that is instead being developed at its core for the MegaDrive, Neo Geo, modern systems and perhaps later Amiga (here).
Update : As Aeon's Legend is lacking any development information and at the time of posting there's nothing about the game on the internet, we've had some clarification in comments from multiple sources such as BitbeamCannon below.
Hi everyone. To clarify some points:
- Aeon's Legend is not abandoned and has nothing to do with DaemonClaw. Aeon's Legend will continue to be made as a joint production by BitBeamCannon and Pixelglass (the maker of Scorpion Engine plus John Tsakiris, and JMD on music) It is being made using Scorpion Engine.
- DaemonClaw is currently being made for modern systems, Neo Geo, and Megadrive, but not via Scorpion Engine. The Amiga version of DaemonClaw will be made with Alex Brown, the programmer of Metro Siege, once Metro Siege is finished.
- We plan to use Scorpion Engine to make many games in the future, far beyond Aeon's Legend, for Amiga, Megadrive, and modern systems.

That's not quite correct. Daemon Claw has been in development for quite sometime, and started long before Aeon's Legend (it was previously called Scorpion Boy). Aeon's Legend is the most recent game to be started by BitBeamCannon and began as they were experimenting with a recent version the Scorpion Engine. What was meant to be an Amiga exclusive has expanded to include the Mega Drive / Genesis also, as the Scorpion Engine now supports that system and makes it an easy port.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is the team hasn't included it on their website, as their other projects have taken a longer than expected to be completed and this has lead to some grumblings from people with expectations on the internet.
The more widely promoted projects such as Daemon Claw and Metro Siege have had some dependencies on an Amiga programmer they've teamed up with and because of his own projects and availability, things slowed down on the Amiga coding side. This is likely why they've opted for the other platforms also and because both the Neo Geo and Mega Drive platforms have strong followings and market places, and likely they've been able to get some available coders to help finish their original projects outside of the Amiga circles (Daemon Claw), with the aim to backport the code to help speed things along once it's done on the other systems.
Aeon's Legend is being handled entirely in the Scorpion Engine, so I don't think they are reliant on the Amiga coder for this one. Likely this will progress quickly once their other games have released or they have a block time while waiting for other team members to complete their sections of work. They may have also learned a lesson as a publisher to not commit / hype something until it's about 80% - 90% ready, in case things change or major delays happen.
Anyways - Aeon's Legend Looks like an awesome game already - hope it gets a release!
Thank you Anon for that very helpful an in depth reply!

Hey Mike! Thanks for that... Just a heads up but on my end the website https://bitbeamcannon.com/ takes AGES to load up first time, and there's only THREE games listed under the games tab. Will Aeon's Legend be added to the website? - Cheers again
DeleteUnfortunately we have heard those before , we simply don't see even a demo for the amiga community.
DeleteSuch a disappointment!!
No o
Ifyou really want to check how to support the amiga community check Castlevania aga , just with one person end below 1 year of work.
DeleteYou do omy support consoles, it's that simple where is metro sieze 3 years in the making!!
Umm there is a demo, it's linked.. It's just an old one that came with a magazine as a digital download :)
DeleteDemo for this scorpion engine game ? Check Castlevania aga again please. We are talking about metro sieze ( years in the making for the amiga ) if it ever comes (I doud it!!) And deamon claw , again for the amiga , so no more comments......
DeleteAhh I thought you were talking about a demo for Aeon's Legend, my bad! I too am also looking forward to Castlevania AGA, but then I look forward to most games :D
DeleteBitBeamCannon, has never made false promises, let alone promised release dates around the corner. We would all like to have Metro Siege for Amiga or the other games in development as soon as possible, but time is needed and not everyone has plenty of it to devote to a project. It's one thing to complain about time stretching, it's another to shoot falsehoods at a group that is putting together some fantastic games, even for our beloved Amiga. It's always too easy to criticize for some people, if you're not okay with it get on with making your own games and don't bother the community that appreciates these projects and the efforts of their developers.
