Ambermoon.net - Open source remake of a fantastic CRPG gets a brand new 1.9.4 release!

Originally released in 1993 for the Amiga by Thalion Software, Ambermoon was the second part of an unfinished trilogy and sequel to Amberstar that was only released in Germany. In was an incredible RPG for its time, and featured 3D graphics that were considered revolutionary for the Amiga, but sadly for the company it couldn't save them from collapse. Well today's news is another special heads up for fans of this great game, as Pyrdacor has released the latest Ambermoon.net update of version 1.9.4: An open source Linux, Mac, Pi4 and Windows remake of this fantastic CRPG.

Do note however even though the game is still in a development stage by Pyrdacor, and many people such as Metallic, Hexaae, Maynef who have been diagnosing and fixing bugs in the Amiga version available (HERE). This latest remake that has been updated to 1.9.4 not only features the previous improvements such as improved 3D performance, bug fixes and text improvements, but it now features graphical goodies, a custom music option, 10 battle speed levels, distance fog to add more atmosphere to the game, updated light levels which increase the view distance in dungeons and at night so it feels a bit more like carrying a torch or lantern and yes even Ambermoon-Advanced; an unofficial extension of Ambermoon!

  1. Fantastic remake of an undying classic. Can't wait for the Android-version. A portable version of Ambermoon would be the hoot.
Alas 1.9.3 crashes for me everytime I try to open it (tried it on two different computers). I wrote Pyrdacor about it, I'm sure he'll solve it in no time.

    1. Yeah I promised this a long time ago but many things came in its way and it needs a large amount of dedicated time for implementation and testing. Not to mention all the different input methods (touch gestures, etc) and other mobile specific things (e.g. display rotation). But it is still on my agenda for some of the next updates.

  5. No need for disk changes since we all have hard drives now. Insert disk 9, insert disk 7, insert disk 4, insert disk 1.
Yeah we remember it well. Still an iconic time in PC gaming and much less of a headache if you had a hard disk.

The graphics were really good in this game. Enjoyable alternative to the D&D games like Eye of the Beholder or even a Might and Magic game.

So many of these types of games hold up extremely well. From games like Alkabeth to Rogue, to Ultima, to D&D Gold Box series all the way to Baldurs Gate Ii. All games that are far more enjoyable than most titles we have had in the last couple decades or so.

This title being a favorite in the PC gaming circles. Great to see it out in a format for modern hardware.

  6. Despite a few abortive attempts in Amiga emulation I've been waiting literally decades now to play this game to the end but there still seems to be a few bugs to iron out before I feel safe to start this remake. Eagerly waiting for the all clear!
