Stranded Cats - Upcoming (split-screen) adventure game for the Commodore 64 gets a demo!

Thanks to another heads up from a good friend of ours , we've been told that if you're looking for something different to play on your C64 where you can play with a friend, then make sure to check out Siegfried Croes latest game demo of 'Stranded Cats '; A game in which the developer describes as a multiplayer (split-screen) adventure game. To coincide with this news, you can view the latest footage provided by Saberman below.

Here's the latest about the game. "Your ship has crash-landed on an island. In order to repair it, you’ll need to go out and explore. Look out for monsters. Defeat them before they can hit you. Scattered around the island you’ll also find boxes. Some of these might contain the materials you need, so break them all. Either player can carry up to 5 at a time. Walk over to your ship (stand on grey tile) to drop them off and heal your wounds. If a player loses all their health, the other player can walk up to them for healing. On the mini-map you can see the position of both players, the position of your ship (black dot), and which parts of the island you've explored so far".

Demo Notes : Missing audio and might have a few graphical glitches here and there. It will be turned into a full game in the future.

  1. Hi! Thank you for the great blog, I read it since almost the start.

Now I want just to tell you a C64 news, maybe you haven't heard of it.
Krissz from Hungary (you wrote about some of his C64 games) made a C64 emulator. It is JavaScript-based so the user can use it very easily in a browser. Krissz also made some cool effects like keyboard noises, joystick noises and CRT filter. You can check it here: https://ty64.krissz.hu/
After Krissz have finished the emulator, he started to make an online C64 game collection based on his emulator, and all of these games can be played in a browser without loading .t64 or .d64 files. You can check it here: https://c64.krissz.hu/online-playable-games/
I hope you will find this interesting.

    Bests,

    Gabor from Hungary

  2. THIS proves we can do a Zelda like on the breadbin! Great Graphics, and the side menu are enticing! looking forward to the full game! Hope it isn't required to have 2 players, as I'm the only player in the apartment. *RIP, MOM*

    1. Yeah, C64 double width pixels are very well suited for the oblique top-down view. Just check the famous Mythos demo game. Mythos uses bitmap mode so it naturally looks even better. That said, this game is remarkably colorful despite the severe restrictions on colors in character mode. By using light grey as background color, it gets away with color clash-ish tiles and gets to use more color elsewhere. A very wise decision IMO - well suited to the cartoonish graphical style. A very skillfully designed cartoonish style too!

  3. Great looking and a great idea of a game! I hope there'll be added ideas/features like puzzle elements or some things that can be only done in cooperation (like moving a heavy object or building something that needs be operated by both players). Also finding certain things that first should be taken back to the ship before continuing the exploration. So things like that. As I think, after a time, just walking around and clawing all sorts of creatures and boxes can be quite dull.
