Super GP 64 - A new racing game has been released for the Commodore 64

It's not often we get new racing games for the Commodore 64, but trawling through the itch io website today, we've found out that AJ Layden has released the Commodore 64 game of 'Super GP 64'. A new game in which the developer describes "as a simple arcade style racer, inspired by games like Pitstop and Pitstop 2, and is a port and reworking of his Super Monza GP 2 game for the VIC 20". In light of this news as ever we've got some new footage of this arcade racer which can be found below.

Also according to AJ Layden, the game now features the Bahrain circuit, four circuits from SMGP2 (Monza, Monaco, Spa and Interlagos), has an in-game circuit map with location indicator that has been added, damage collision which can be repaired by entering the pits during the race, you can compete compete in a single or championship race on any of the five circuits, a choice of three difficulty levels, which are determined by starting position and race length, and finally is both PAL / NTSC compatible.

  1. To be honest, I am a little bit disappointed that there is no real break through in racing games on the C64. In 1984 the racing game Pitstop II showed how racing games should look like, that is 40 years ago. The idea of new racing games on the C64 is good but technologically most of the new racing games are still in the 80s.
