Another Tetris game has appeared that's worthy of a mention on Indie Retro News, as we were recently informed through Facebook, that Eric Carr has released the FastBasic 4.6 programmed Atari XL/XE game of 'Tetris'. A clone of the NES version which was entered into the BASIC 10Liner Contest 2024 under the EXTREM-256 category. To coincide with this news, Saberman has provided a video showing the game being played.
One of the most popular games of all time was a tile-matching, block rotating puzzle video game first released in 1984 which became a huge hit on the Gameboy in 1989. It just had to be the classic 'Tetris'; a game that caused many people to spend hours playing to the point of addiction. Although we've had numerous clones over the years some of them good and some of them rather bad, today's Tetris by Eric Carr is a version that's equally enjoyable for the Atari XL/XE, especially as it was created in BASIC 10 Liner!
Game Background
"January of this year was the first time some played the NES Tetris game until it crashed, finally beating it. To celebrate this feat, I present this NES Tetris inspired game for the Atari. It uses no player missile graphics or DLI. Just a custom character set. I enhanced my music code to play patterns, to allow for a longer song before it repeats".

That can't possibly be written in 10 lines, what does this whole BASIC 10 Liner mean in this case?
ReplyDeleteHere's the competition rules "It is that time of the year when we all get excited about BASIC, but only if it is restricted to 10 lines of code!"
Delete"Category “EXTREME-256”: Program a game in 10 lines (max 256 characters per logical line, abbreviations are allowed)"
DeleteExcellent 10 liner , Easy to play . Graphics and sound are great for such a small program . Well done Mr. Carr
