A Street Fighter project by msmalik681 gets another Amiga update tease - Release SOON

The Scorpion Engine is the best development tool for the Amiga, as not only can you create some pretty decent looking games, but unlike other software creation tools such as BackBone or RedPill they don't run at a snails pace on anything but a power house of an Amiga. Thankfully one such creator shows what could be possible, is msmalik681's previewed Street Fighter; a game which originally appeared on the Arcades, and was then ported to pretty much every system you could think of, including such systems as the Amiga (poorly), Atari St and even the ZX Spectrum.

Here's what the creator says about the game and the latest previewed update. "So I really hated the conversion of Street Fighter on the Amiga. I think the original could have been much better even the C64 version had the special moves. I can not emphasize enough how bad the original was on the Amiga just play it and see. I am attempting to remake Street Fighter 1 for Amiga ECS 2MB! This maybe the final preview video and hope to be finished soon. Sorry about the poor audio".

update highlights:

  • I have reworked the jump system for enemies.
  • the attack ai is more modular.
  • enemy projectiles implemented.
  • reworked the camera system as the screen jumped when geki teleported.
  • damage stats set for enemy and player but may change.
  • now using scorpions new strafe system so ryu's actors have gone from 4 down to 2. (thanks earok)

  1. Looks great - I don't even mind the music, though I suppose with a bit more fine tuning it could be spot on. Only thing is it looks a touch slower compared to the original, is that intentional, or something to be optimised?

  2. This looks better than the arcade version 👍Perhaps make it a little faster by reducing screen size slightly and removing just a few small background details. Just my meager thoughts.

  4. Speed is slow due to performance limitations, had to run the game at 25fps and if there are 2 projectiles on screen you get slow down. Big characters like birdie and sagat could also be a problem

  5. Graphics are great with a good use of colours maybe Better than the arcade but parallax is gone and the game seems too slow! I bet you can squeeze this conversion on a simple ocs with 512kb +512kb....a good effort,After all!

  7. Good job overall, but try to optimise for the ocs 1mb....even the old ST version had the background scrolling and It used only 512kb! I know scorpion engine it's Just a tool and it's totally different than reprogramming the game in assembly but you can do It!

  8. This looks brilliant! The original port was truly awful when it released, I remember screen shots looked great, but it was all a lie. This new version looks much more like it. The large sprites look great!

  9. Where did you get the sprites from? Did you redesign them or were they copied from some particular version of the game?

  10. To be honest I'm not a fan of scorpion engine. Everything made with it runs slow and has janky FPS.

    3. Yeah, Scorpion games generally run great! I haven't seen much slow or 'janky fps. :) Backbone and Redpill are awful.

  11. Maybe the speed seems show coz it runs 50 fps while the arcade runs at 60 fps. I hope there will be cd32 joypad/6 button support.
