Dune II: The Building of A Remaster - Development of a new Amiga AGA and OCS version by Westwood's Robert Koon!

I'm sure many of you remember Dune II, one of the greatest RTS games of our time, an all time classic developed by one of the greatest developers Westwood, which was released for the Amiga, MS-DOS and a later release on the Sega Megadrive in 93. Well if you do remember it ( more specifically the Amiga version ), then at some point Robert Koon, who was part of the original Dune 2 team at Westwood, will be releasing a new Amiga AGA and OCS remaster. A new version of the game which is sure to excite many in the Amiga community.

The FULL introduction sequence from the DOS version (sans audio, that is in the works) has been ported to AGA and it runs seamlessly from floppy disk across two disks.

Here's the latest from the Patreon page about this Amiga AGA/OCS remaster. "Dune II on the Amiga was a really popular game. Most gaming magazines gave it rave reviews and it can consistently be found on "Best Amiga Games Ever"-type lists. Despite all of those accolades, the game on the Amiga wasn't as good as it could have been. The game shipped on 5 disks and suffered from extensive disk swapping. Most of the great introduction sequence from the DOS version was chopped down quite a bit".

"The soundtrack had a limited presence, and there was no AGA-specific version. Even the Amiga gameplay was slightly diminished due to limited resources available to the game. My goal is to remake Dune 2 for the Amiga from scratch the way it was meant to be released and to right all of those wrongs — and more; there was no native PAL support, for example".

So yes if you loved Dune II and would love to play a remastered version on your Amiga (AGA/OCS), then make sure to check out the latest developments at the Patreon page linked (HERE).

    1. ECS is a minor upgrade from OCS and is fully compatible with OCS.

  3. Huh? I never played Dune 2 on Amiga, but I always thought it was well liked? Wasn't there even something like an Addon for it that the PC version never got? Maybe I have been misinformed all these years.

    1. It was very well received, as stated above. It did lack a few features that you got on the PC version, e.g. the PC version had speech and more music if you had a sufficiently capable sound card.

  5. Wow, this is great news, these are really commendable initiatives, thank you for all the work!

  6. What a great initiative, Amiga has always lacked the AGA version with the same or better content than the PC version. Maybe even a Command and Conquer style way to control units and give orders.

  8. It would be awesome if multi unit selection could be included. It's the only reason I play C&C over Dune 2.

  12. It would be great if the remastered version could run on a vanilla CD32 too! Main advantage: no disk swapping, so faster loading times! There was a Sega megadrive version in the past, so who knows!

  13. I hope it succeeds, Dune II kept my brother entertained on the Amiga for years.
