Hayato's Journey - Unofficial spiritual sequel of Kenseiden, a cult-classic SEGA Master System game now for the Sega Mega Drive!

We have just been tagged via Erik Hogan creator of the Scorpion Engine, that Master Linkuei has announced the release of the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis game of Hayato's Journey. As in the words of Erik "This is a fan sequel to Master System classic Kenseiden. It is also the very first full length Scorpion title to appear on the Mega Drive/Genesis. No guarantees, but there may be ports to Amiga AGA and NeoGeo in the future". To coincide with this news, we've got some new footage of the game as well as a brief game story from the developer.

" Hayato is the last descendent of the Great Hayato, a legendary member of the Dragon family that fight against the evil Warlock centuries ago. On this battle, Great Hayato recovered the 5 Secret Scrolls and the Sacred Sword of the Dragon King. On this journey, the Evil Warlock called Yonensai, returned from the Demon World searching for vengeance annihilating the remaining Dragon family descendents. Hayato, equipped with the Sword of the Dragon King, cross the land dominated by Evil Entities, Warlocks and Wicked Beasts to revenge his master, killed by the Evil Warlock henchmen and also to save his beloved Sakura that was kidnaped by the Yonensai, the evil Warlock itself".

  1. Cool! That just made my day! Kenseiden is a neat little gem that gets way less attention than it deserves, with its fantastic Kazuo Koike meets Ninja Scroll vibes. Finding an entire fan project following in its footsteps - and delivering such well polished results - is just amazing! Congratulations!

  3. Who cares ?
It was earok himself who pointed indieretronews into the right direction.
Tested it on my pi400 running retropie and it works great in emulation.
Next stop for me is burning this on a rom and putting it on a pcb and in a cartridge to run on original hardware.

    Thanks Master Linkuei

  5. The Scorpion Engine is the gift that keeps giving. It looks really good and plays smoothly. Possibly the best retro fan game I have played all year that is free.

  6. Great work. Nothing wrong with using templates and organising existing assets. I do it. If the end result is fun, who cares 👍

  9. For me, that walking animation is rather funny, but the rest is stunning. Graphics, sound ... When I finally set up my Sega Mega Drive corner, I would definitely give this a go!

  10. Lots of references in this game! From "Revenge of shinobi" and "Shinobi 3" but also i can recognize the demon statues of "the astyanax", the bears from "Magic sword" and even a boss from "Willow"!!! I Hope It can be ported on Amiga, too!!
