Grey -This first person shooter preview for the C64/128 is certainly worth a look!

Throughout the years we've featured many different types of news stories such as games, scene demos and even music disks. Well here with another eye opening news story I think you'll like, as if you have a Commodore 64/C128, then it might be worth checking out the latest update of the first person Doom like game called 'Grey'; a new game which is being currently developed by Piotr Kozka and team, and will be released at some point in the near future. In light of this news, as always Saberman has done a video of the game in action.

Here is what the video description says about the game "Grey is an FPS in development. There are four levels to explore in this version. Some areas are available only upon collecting a required door key (doors requiring keys are marked with vertical stripes placed on neighbouring walls) or opening push-walls. The player is initially equipped with two weapons; a pistol and chainsaw, and is low on ammo and hp. The objective of every mission is to find exit - a green blinking map square. There are two distinct enemies; flying drones equipped with meelee attacks and walking, bipedal mechs, equipped with hit scan attacks".

What's new in version 6

  • - more sophisticated levels with increasing difficulty level
  • - improved enemy "AI"
  • - new textures
  • - new sounds
  • - refurbished sprites
  • - new pickups
  • - traps
  • - quick save / load system. The game automatically saves the state when a level is loaded. When the player dies, they can either start from the beginning (start option), or load the last saved state (retry), and try again
  • - mini-map displayed on status bar.

  1. Looks fantastic! Anyone know if the C128 version will add any enhancements to the game? (Other than obviously running a bit faster).

    1. It would be great if they added a map on a secondary screen for the C128 version like Eye of the Beholder.

    2. I wonder if the map being on the bar limits it's size. I wouldn't mind bigger maps, perhaps some with bigger rooms. But yes, this looks amazing!

  2. This indeed looking quite a lot better already :3. I've always lamented that it seemed that the C64 had almost nothing to offer in this genre that could be compared to the Spectrum 1st person shooters we know. But now this and Red Serpent look really promising!

    1. Extraordinary results from a longtime investing effort from the devs that are keep insisting to constantly improve their game in a genre that is nt that popular to C64/6128 gamers . By the way-since it was mentioned- the impressive "T.R.S.I. The Red Serpent Invasion" https://www.indieretronews.com/2022/08/trsi-red-serpent-invasion-interactive.html , is it still under development ,or is it just a another C64 game that sufferered from the "preview curse"?

    2. It's been a year or so since the last preview version and I haven't heard anything since then. So, ... who knows. This doesn't mean anything yet. Many of these games take very long.

    3. As "T.R.S.I. The Red Serpent Invasion" Graphics Artist (V3to) about a month ago stated in the "T.R.S.I." Forum64.de game thread "The project is up in the air. I created some texture sets after the demo. Unfortunately, our project lead spotter passed away last year and since then the development has been AFAIK. Which doesn't mean that it won't continue in time. (Google auto translated from German)

    4. T.R.S.I looks nice in terms of resolution, but it's sluggish and there aren't very many enemies and pickups.

  4. The C64 definitely give it a thick, creepy vibe.

  5. Definitely the best attempt at a 3D shooter on the C64, awesome game! I hope the difficulty is a bit easier in the final version, so I have a chance making it past level 2 :D
