Spelunky 64 - The rebirth of a hit game is now available for the Commodore 64!

Within the next half hour or so, if you head on over to the website linked below, you can check out the latest release of the Commodore 64 version of 'Spelunky' by Paul Koller and Mikkel Hastrup! A game that was not only released by Mossmouth for the PC in 2008-2013. But the game has a similar style to the platforming classic rick dangerous such as cave exploration, treasure-hunting and yes even nasty cave dwellers. To coincide with this awesome news, we've got some footage of the game below, as well as extra details from the website.

And here's what the website says about Spelunky 64. "Spelunky is a cave exploration / treasure-hunting game inspired by classic platform games and roguelikes, where the goal is to grab as much treasure from the cave as possible. Every time you play the cave's layout will be different. Use your wits, your reflexes, and the items available to you to survive and go ever deeper! Perhaps at the end you may find what you're looking for...Paul Koller brings you the official Commodore 64 port of Spelunky. You can now play the classic roguelike how it would be intended on the best-selling 8bit computer!"

    2. Though it's so much more dynamic than Rick Dangerous with it's randomized levels. The boulder actually destroys cave walls too, it's like Rick Dangerous on steroids in a good way. :3 I never warmed up to Rick Dangerous because it was just too difficult and most of it was simply "learn every room". Here you can't learn every room. It's designed to be more fair from the outset. :3

  5. The multi-directional scrolling can't have been easy to do.

  6. If Spelunky can be made for the C64, maybe Shovel Knight can be made for the NES (with lowered performance targets and a suitably enhanced cartridge).

    1. I don't know about the NES, but I wouldn't mind seeing it on the Amiga.

  7. Been playing this for hours and hours now and my gosh, it's not easy! :3 Wish there was some kind of manual or tutorial because maybe unlike most, I have never played a Spelunky game before. But I LOVE this game! It's so fun!

  8. It's a good port of a classic game! I haven't even played it yet, but watching videos makes it clear it has a very large part of the original's functionality.
