Fist of the North Star 2 aka Last Battle (Sega Mega Drive) is possibly coming to the Commodore Amiga

The last news story from me today unless something major comes out, as looking through both the EAB forums and Facebook, we've found out that the Sega Mega Drive version of Last Battle: Legend of the Final Hero, is possibly coming to the Commodore Amiga as Fist of the North Star 2. As in the words of the developer who is creating it using the Scorpion Engine "This will be for the Amiga game jam. But street fighter will be first". To coincide with this news, we've got a short video of an early build as well as a wikipedia description about the original.

And here's the wikipedia info! "Last Battle: Legend of the Final Hero is a side-scrolling martial arts beat 'em up released for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1989 by Sega. It was one of the six games that were available as part of the Genesis launch lineup in the U.S. The Japanese version, titled Shin Seikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu: Hokuto no Ken. "Fist of the North Star: The New Legend of the Post-Apocalyptic Messiah"), is based on the manga and anime series Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken in Japanese). Since the international version did not retain the Hokuto no Ken license, the graphics and characters' names were altered".

  • Dev Notes : I'll be making at least 1 level demo for the amiga game jam. But if i can make a full game it would be cool.
And that's all there is to say about the game, but keep an eye out for more on IndieRetroNews!

    2. To be fair even the original Amiga version which Creative Materials made is based on the Mega Drive version. It is clear SEGA gave them at least the graphical assets from the Mega Drive original. My guess is Elite wanted to ship on one disk for cost saving so only half the game got made. Personally I like the Mega Drive original myself and I think the Amiga version for all its faults was pretty close to the original. Creative Materials also did Street Fighter II, Final Fight and Line of Fire for Amiga which were decent and close approximations for the time.

  3. Fist of the North Star games are the best at being bad and great at the same time.
This was a launch title for the Genesis. Classic! Please make it happen!

  4. The Amiga version was a failure but the original one on megadrive wasn't a lot better,of course but....no parallax scrolling again??!!

    1. parallax puts a strain on the amiga when using 32 colour mode and its very poor with a repeating 32 pixel tile.

  5. Well, they got the choppy character movement down perfectly :)
The pink sky though, is weird, and the parallax os missing

  6. Not of those best games from Sega Mega Drive , but not bad , I had more wish for a port with Mega Twins or something V-Scrolling shoot¨em up from Sega that not Amiga have.

  9. Compared to the Amiga version this way better. The Sega version did not obtain the rights to utelise the original Hokouto no Ken name (Fist of the North Star) in Japan, so they had to change the tile to Last Battle, change the colours, and they also had to rename all the enemies. Since this is a fan made and you can render justice to this game by naming it name Hokouto no Ken, and utelising the same anime colours of Kenshiro. 1. Think i will call it last battle 2 as that would limit it to 1 possible cease and desist.
