Toki was an awesome arcade shooter platformer that was released way back in 1989-1991 by a designer by the name of Akira Sakuma for many different systems including my personal favorite the Sega Mega Drive! Well If you remember this truly great game, you'll be pleased to know you can play a level 1 demo of the remastered C64 version which is still in development by Davide Bottino and team. As in the words of the creator " Toki C64 Remastered is a fan-made total makeover of the original conversion of the arcade game Toki released by Ocean for Commodore 64 in 1991".
- Key Enhancements
- Complete redesign of all the sprites, ensuring fidelity to the original arcade.
- Extensive touch-ups to the backgrounds, including a full redesign of the final level, to bring them closer to the arcade look while optimizing the pixel art for CRT as well as modern HD monitors.
- Restoration of the original arcade music.
- Bug fixes and aesthetic corrections for errors in the 1991 version.
- Gameplay optimization, addressing frustrating issues like overly sensitive controls and collision detection.
- 📅 On December 24, 2024, I’ll release the demo with level 1, fully playable with all the sprites redone from scratch! [The intro, backgrounds, and code are still the same as the original released by Ocean in 1991.]
- 💻 And, as you can see in the video, our new version also runs on real hardware! You just need a cartridge like the Kung Fu Flash to enjoy it on a CRT like the old times!
- 🤩 I still can’t believe it, but I’m playing Toki on the one trusty 1702 monitor I used in 1991, that I kept all along, and I’m seeing the graphics exactly how I envisioned them 33 years ago, while waiting for the game to be released! Literally a dream come true.
The new Toki game has a massive improvement when compared to the 1991 version. The details and the animation are great
