Remember when I announced that one of the best homebrew developer's of Sarah Jane Avory, was working on a new Commodore 64 RPG that is inspired by the classic of Ultima? Well I've just looked through the Commodore 64/128 Facebook group, and have just found out that that not only is this Commodore 64 game now called ' Kouyate ', but there's been some new footage teased with additional in game music by @nordischsound.
Here's the latest from Sarah, who was also behind games such as Soul Force, Zeta Wing, Briley Witch Chronicles. "Ever since the 80s I've always wanted to create an Ultima-style RPG for the C64, so I've started creating one! This is the 5th video clip, and shows some combat, showing melee weapons, ranged weapons, a few NPC's, graphics designs by @mementomoree.bsky.social and finally new music by @nordischsound.
And that's all I know so far, but as soon as the game is worthy of yet another big announcement, I will let you all know :)
This is impressive. Even if I don't really like Ultima-RPG like, I think this one will help me love a little more :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to play it, as it will be another great game from Sarah.
Happy to see this game being made. I love CRPGs and am happy to see yet another new one for the c64. Will definitely be keeping an eye on this.
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! My biggest gripe with Ultima style RPG's are the woeful controls and having to use keyboard to do anything. A nice touch would be a second button context menu. The only other thing is a bit more color, maybe with some sprite overlays, but as it is it looks very decent.
ReplyDeleteLooks absolutely fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLooks and sounds absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be absolutely epic. Maybe I'm not entirely a fan of the writing/dialogs in this tiny snippet yet, it feels a bit contemporary, in dark fantasy like this, where I'd expect people to sound more moody and less chipper. But what the heck, I know nothing about this now, so discard that thought, I am deeply in love with what adventure awaits. Unbelievable! I wished this engine would be used again to make many more adventures too. Still hoping for more interactive things in the world, akin to Ultima , but I am smitten. <3
ReplyDeleteI love those character names. I'm so excited to get to adventure with Peeb, Jerd, Ian, and Joof.
ReplyDeleteI am guessing will be released before Stirling Dragon's Unknown Realm (funded on Kickstarter nearly 8 years ago)
ReplyDeletehaha - yes, i'd say you're right.
Deletei love the aesthetics of this game... last time I played something like this was Skaald the black priory... Really awesome game. Sarah Jane's game is following the exact same receipe very succefully. i am really looking forward to it! well done Sarah Jane!
