The Secret of the Four Winds - Japanese-style action role-playing teased for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Kai Magazine

Kai Magazine is certainly no stranger to IndieRetroNews, creating quality games such as Life on Mars, Life on Earth, and my personal favourite which sits right here on the shelf, called Metal Dragon. Well if you were hoping for more games to add to your collection (I know I am) , then come and check out the latest info about the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis game of 'The Secret of the Four Winds'. A Japanese-style action role-playing game that has been in development for years, teased in this new(ish) video, and even has a demo.

Here's the latest from the developer. "This game took more work, time and resources than Metal Dragon, Life on Mars and Life on Earth COMBINED. The cartridge contains a custom board with an audio enhancement chip that offers the possibility to enjoy the game with Sega CD / Mega-CD music quality (No actual Sega CD / Mega-CD is required). Furthermore in regards to the actual game itself... This is just the very beginning of the game. Further on the player will control 3 different characters at the same time (the player can control any of the 3 characters at any time and the other characters will be controlled by the CPU). The player can give orders and priorities to the other characters at any time so the companions do what we need them to do.

"The game-play is deep, with some strategy and tactics, character development at will (grow a given character as a tank or as an attacker or healer, etc.). The story also begins simple and quite typical, but it will evolve and change quite a lot. The decisions you make during the game will have consequences, etc. The game should take around 20 to 30 hours to finish (depending on the player) and it has re-playability value since your choices will slightly change some parts of the story and ending".

  1. At least the cover is less embarrassing than their cover for "Life on Earth."

    1. Why was it embarrassing? I thought it was just trying to be typical 80s/90s sci-fi anime art.

    2. It's different for different people I guess, but if my partner had seen me with that box I would have gotten some strange looks.

    3. My partner has far more explicit imagery on her wall. She's cool like that.

  2. JRPG? This is a Shadowrun clone. Shadowrun is a Western game that has very different visuals and gameplay from Japanese RPGs.

    1. This is a common price for a psychical game containing PCB and additional audio chips etc. So your remark does not make sense.Try make a decent game yourself and release it for 40 euro if you dare.
For such price you won't make any profit and this is not a non-profit team. Consider the amount of work that goes into such project. And finally you don't have to buy this, don't think they miss 'fans' that only want to pay less than the actual costs.
