If you loved the 1984 game of Tetris, you'll be pleased to know that as of today, you can download the very latest Tetris style game of 'Twintris Deluxe' by Trex. A far improved deluxe version of a game originally released in 2001 by Megastyle, in which the nfo states as " very spartan and still fairly immature ". To coincide with this news, we've got the full details about this release, as well as some gameplay footage showing this 1 to 2 player Tetris clone in action.
Reading the nfo file provided about the game, here's what it says. "Twintris is a 1 or 2 player Tetris clone, which was released by Megastyle in 2001. Compared to the Deluxe edition, which is now available, the previous version was very spartan and still fairly immature. Text messages were missing and the game was starting without many options. The player must rotate blocks, which are falling from the top into a tube, in 90 degree increments and Move them from the middle to the left or the right, so that they form horizontal rows at the bottom with as few gaps as possible. As soon as a horizontal line is complete, it will disappear".
"All rows above it move downwards, freeing up parts of the playing field. For clearing several rows at the same time, the player receives a higher score per row than for a single one. The blocks do not behave physically correctly. The blocks remain in positions in which they land instead of tipping over according to gravity. Rows that Move up, don't fill previously existing gaps. In this way, blocks can make it More difficult to complete rows below. When a certain number of rows has been removed, the falling speed of the blocks increases. The game ends as soon as the rows that have not been removed, have piled up to the top of the playing field or the time runs out".
Changes :
- 3 brand new modes added which include battle, versus and deluxe
- Deluxe mode includes 19 newly designed levels
- Sprites added to inform player of winner, loser and new high score achieved
- Highscore allowing you to enter your initials and save to disk
- Change of code for the random routine
- Ability for the pieces to come out in the same order when playing battle or versus mode
- Rotation of pieces allowed at left and right of player table.
- Alternative hires font and sid added.
