When I was young I used to love playing the very latest in 16bit/32bit racers such as Outrun, Lotus or even XJ220 on the Amiga. It was a time that gave me the feeling of intense speed and near misses without driving a real car and ending up in the local clink. Thankfully if you too like games like that, or even ones with a more science fiction element to them, then make sure to keep an eye on Hyper Runner; An upcoming sci-fi racer for the Commodore Amiga by Raster Wizards that looks even better in this latest footage!
Hyper Runner is not just an inspiration to the incredible game of F-ZERO on the SNES. But it will have around 15 levels with each having a specific look, the choice of different vehicles to race with, and while the game is some way yet from completition, the game is being coded by Colin Vella, graphics by Tenshu and music by Mike Richmond. So yes this is one game that many Amiga fans across the globe will be looking forward to playing when and IF it gets a release.
Update : Have added the latest video for the game in which the dev says "This is stage 2, route A, Desert Road for Hyper Runner, a futuristic Outrun-style game for the Commodore Amiga, AGA chipsets.
It definitely looks cool, but I hope there are more futuristic looking stages, too.
ReplyDeleteMy 2 cents: with shadows under vehicles, and 1 audio channel saved for sound effects (what about switching to chip tune 2-3 channels?) including motor sound would be absolutely amazing! Love the perfect use of copperlist for the street and the sky.
ReplyDeleteLike your suggestions.
DeleteThis title screams extreme ups & downs in the road!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, but would like to see a reimagined road texture so it feels like the future I guess. The country vibe is kind a cool, but would a metallic kind of road suit that scene a little better?
ReplyDeleteThe country background looks great. Leave it. The road is fine. More dips and hills 👍
ReplyDeleteI really hope there will be sound effects. I don't like the music song. Graphics look good. I wish it won't be very hard to avoid the other hovercrafts because collisions seem to be frustrating.
ReplyDeleteAgreed the music isnt good enough to carry the game.
DeleteThe game needs to have and ups and downs, now its just a flat racer downhill, and music needs to be better, I hope this is just a placeholder piece of music for testing. Otherwise, looks decent.
ReplyDeleteI fear this will be the final music. The game reminds me of Space Racer (1988) https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=2782
DeleteLooked great, but wasn't any fun. I hope this will play better.
Looks fantastic, can't wait to play it!
ReplyDeleteUh, don't forget hills and valleys!
ReplyDeleteSince everyone is putting in requests... I most definitely think this game needs dinosaurs with laser beam eyes and of course a winter level with murderous snowmen that chase you down. That will really put the final spit & polish this game needs.
ReplyDeleteAll joking aside, looks like a cool racer. Looking forward to a demo to try out.
ReplyDeleteRETROBIT
ReplyDeleteThe 2024 has been a GREAT year for Amiga computers, we see how will be this 2025 ..
MMhh, really interesting, i agree with Indieretronews >> this game is a F-zero (with its aggressive gameplay) realized in Outrun visual style, great sense of speed that combined with the fluid animations (of vehicles and tracks) brings an excellent visual result, really beautiful ! |^.^|
Lotus Esprit clone.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the requirements? It looks like an AGA game, right? A1200 with fast or 030 on top?
ReplyDeleteThe dichotomy between futuristic vehicle and the country scenery gives it a uniquely beautiful vibe.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that the curves are oddly rendered. They are straight towards the horizon. Without an indicator sign we cannot see an incoming curve
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame it's (apparently?) AGA-only.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with that?
Deleteis it really that hard to get effects and music at the same time in Amiga games? Is it possible to use TFMX or some other sound engine and do something similar to what Turircan did? Other than that (usual) criticism i have for Amiga games, this is shaping up good. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThe 7 voice technology in Turrican 1 and 2 is in intro and final music only, not during the gameplay. This is becouse the 7 voice on the Amiga does take a lot of CPU power.

DeleteNeeds a shadow under the vehicle and hills/dips in the road. For some reason the music, although good, doesn't fit the action. Could also do with a sound effect for the engine (or the option to go full sound effects with other engines too). I think it looks fantastic and am looking forward to it. Well done <3
ReplyDeleteparallax for the background would do very good
ReplyDeleteThat music track sounds like something that would come from Remute (German electronic musician).
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing, but the music needs more sense of haste, more bpm! It's good, but not for this kind of game. Needs something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPbZABYQJV8&list=OLAK5uy_l0ePw8QawYBVa74imeeM6CHum7JxrOOKM&t=24s
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I also think there should be some kind of engine noise :)
