Glorious news Amiga owners, as we've just found out through Twitter, that Jonathan Thomas will be bringing the super fast and silky smooth facing game of 'FASTER' from the Atari STE over to the Commodore Amiga at some point in the near future. As in the words of the creator about the STE version "Don't expect endless game modes, achievements, tutorials or cutscenes - this is pure, unfettered and uncomplicated 1980's-style arcade action". To coincide with this news, we've got some footage from the very first announcement direct from the twitter post.
Here it is - the first in-development footage of the much-requested #Amiga OCS/ECS conversion of my #AtariSTE game FASTER.

Weird/unexpected chipset behaviours and optimisation challenges are slowing things down somewhat, so no plans to talk about a release date just yet! pic.twitter.com/p5YzxO3LCa
And here's the latest about the game in brief. " The first in-development footage of the much-requested #Amiga OCS/ECS conversion of my #AtariSTE game FASTER. Weird/unexpected chipset behaviors and optimizations challenges are slowing things down somewhat, so no plans to talk about a release date just yet!" And that's all there is to say about the game, but keep an eye on IRN for any future updates!
Brilliant ! I was Gutted that you needed a "TOP END" ST to play the Original, so, at last, us "Peasants" are going to get to play this AWESOME Looking Racer - HAPPY DAYS :->
ReplyDeleteWEC Le Mans, finally!
ReplyDeleteI am eager to play it on the Amiga.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will be a PAL release!
DeleteHopefully NOT.. PAL is alwasy slower. Never understood why people want PAL versions. However it is easy to implement both Modes of PAL and NTSC and switch within the game. Like the game OUTFALL (a Jellydrop/tetris type game) which perfected this unlike anything I have ever seen. EVERY Amiga game should work like it and problem solved. It switched modes seemlessly and the speed of the music does not change if I remember correct.
DeleteI still feel like this is more of a w.i.p conceptual tech demo rather than a full game. It is missing a lot of what you'd expect from a racer of this kind on a 16-bit platform.
ReplyDeletePlease let the Genesis have the next port! 🙏👾
ReplyDeleteGenesis is not powerfull to run good these kinds of games
DeleteGenesis is MUCH more powerful than the Atari ST. It should be easy to run this game. But there is already a new racing game being made for the Genesis as well, which seems to be much better than this one.
DeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteImpressive! Superb!
