ZX Spectrum 'Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter' is being remade for the Commodore Amiga

I wasn't expecting to do any writing today, especially with the sun being out and me resting. However this latest news item was just too good to pass on by! As I've recently found out through the EAB forums, that Hardwired is remaking the ZX Spectrum game of 'Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter' over to the Commodore Amiga. As in his words "For the past 2 months I've been converting the Classic ZX Spectrum Game Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter. This is a tactical squad turn-based game by Julian Gollop, prequel of sorts to Laser Squad". To coincide with this news, here's some brand new footage and brief details about the game below.

ZX Spectrum Version

And here's the details from the first post. "This was one of my favorites, and it was on my to do bucket-list for a long time. When the last Amiga JAM about sequels showed up, It just popped into my mind to do this...Unfortunately I was pretty busy with work... But recently I got my back holidays, and I decided to give it a go".

And here's the result so far:

  • I've attached the screenshot regarding the state of the project in the middle of January
  • And the others screenshot are from 23/02/2025.
  • It allows to fully play with two players. No computer AI playing for now, It's one of my next steps.
  • The enhanced Amiga GFX are mostly done. Probably will have the ZX original ones as option.
  • As for sound I've captured the ZX sounds. No Amiga enhanced sounds for now...
  • For music I'm using a "place in" from Universe and Reunion, for inspiration...
  • I'm trying to make it fully Amiga OS compliant (for future), but no promises.
  • Amiga Intuition is not fan of Double Buffer and similar...

"Naturally it will need music appropriate for the title and gameplay... But it's out of my capabilities - So I Will need help! Do bear in mind... As this is not my main activity, I'm posting this here, because at some stage I'll need help to finish it. So at least people are aware of it..."

And that's all there is to say about the game thus far, but for further info including the latest screenshots check the EAB thread (HERE).
